iPhone Going Straight To Voicemail

Yesterday, a neighbor's iPhone kept going straight to voicemail and would not allow outgoing

calls. Upon witnessing this problem, decided it could be fixed.

1. First checked that the Do Not Disturb function was not turned on.

2. Next tried turning on Airplane mode and turning it off.

3. Then checked the Focus mode.

None of those settings was the problem. Proceeded to check under the Services:

4. General functions.

Under General functions checked for recent software updates. Found the iOS had been updated

to version 16. While checking all these things, realized the phone was functioning like it didn't

have a sim.  After seeing there had been a recent update to the iOS, shut down the phone and

turn it back on. My neighbor has her service back and the phone is working okay.

Part II

The next evening, after going to sleep mode, the phone completely locked up and would not work.

It was taken to the nearest Verizon business center.  The sales clerk was happy to sell us a new phone

but couldn't help with unlocking the phone. Long story shortened:

A. Call the Apple support line.

B. Make sure you know your Apple Id name and password.

C. If you have to continue without knowing one of the two, make sure you have all the current

information on the credit/debit card number used to set up the account.

D. Should you fail to have this information, you will be informed that it will take 30 days for a reset

of your Apple Id to enable your current profile on the locked phone to be transferred from the

iCloud backup to the new phone.

And people still love an iPhone over an Android phone. Apology for the manic moment.

However, the phone is usable while the neighbor waits for the Apple Id fix.

1. If the person has shared contact lists with Facebook and/or email service you can elect

to set up the phone profile later and continue to make it usable for making  and  receiving  calls,

as well as emails and you can manually set up Facebook without losing any data.
